Back to School Letter

Dear WAY Academy Southwest Students and Families,

We are very excited to welcome our students and families back to a new school year. This year, as you are aware, is starting with a few adjustments. As you are aware, ALL students will report back to school Virtually, until further notice. Students will not need to report to the building, at this time, unless you are notified for testing, equipment distribution or for another scheduled meeting. We are working hard to make this school year the best possible for all students. Here are some updates:

Please take note of the following important updates:

  • Our WAY Academy Southwest students are expected to work online 30 hours per week.
  • WAY Academy SW staff and the Online Content Experts are available Monday through Friday from 8:00 am to 4:00 pm, to assist students.
  • You will receive a Learning Plan (Course Schedule) for your student as well as a schedule of daily Live Sessions that coincide with their Learning Plan.
  • Students will be assigned at least 2 weekly Live Sessions (via Zoom), and attendance is expected. Live Sessions will take place between the times of 8:00 am and 4:00 pm.
  • Student’s have access to projects and our curriculum 24/7 in HERO. They are always able to work, independently.
  • Attendance will be taken at each session. If your student is not present, they will be marked “absent” and you will be notified.
  • Daily attendance in HERO is expected. Your student must sign in to HERO, daily, Monday-Friday and email their assigned mentor. * The email may be counted for attendance, not the login to Hero.
  • Students are expected to earn .125 credits per week, in courses. This means that a minimum of one graded assignment (Check your Learnings or Final Products) should be completed weekly. The completion of an assignment may also be counted for attendance.
  • Students that schedule individual sessions with teachers have a 12 hour cancellation period. If you do not reschedule or cancel 12 hours in advance, you will be marked absent from your session. Absences are tracked for attendance purposes.

We have lots of great things in store for us, this school year. We are working hard to get the Live Session schedule set for our students. Please keep your eyes on your mailbox and on all social media sites for further updates.

Our first day of school is Tuesday, September 8, 2020 at 8:00 am. All teachers will be available online for individual sessions and to support your student. Your student should be prepared to work independently, on their learning plan on the first day of school. If support is needed, our WAY Staff will be available.

Thank you for your continued support of WAY Academy Southwest!

Kind Regards,

Jocelyn Farkas, Director
